Since its founding in 1965 by Benedict Torcivia, Torcon has grown to be ranked among the nation’s 80 largest construction managers with a record of more than $4 billion in construction over the past decade. Previously, the company was named Contractor of the Year, by ENR New York.
Today, Torcon is under the leadership of its co-presidents Benedict J. Torcivia, Jr. and Joseph A. Torcivia, who are both sons of the company’s founder. Locally, Michael K. Armento, Senior Vice President, heads the Philadelphia office. With the headquarters in Red Bank, New Jersey, a full-service operations office in Philadelphia, as well as an office in Puerto Rico, Torcon supports clients and projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.
Torcon is a company whose growth over the past five decades has come through performance on the most demanding projects. Torcon’s experience encompasses a wide range of commercial facilities, from office buildings and corporate headquarters to hotels, residence halls, retail stores, malls, performing arts theaters and parking structures. Torcon specializes in technically complex projects with critical quality and operational standards including technology and utility-rich facilities, such as labs and other bio-pharm centers, as well as projects for healthcare and academic institutions.
Recently, Torcon has been involved in a variety of notable projects such as a major expansion at the main campus of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, including the completion of a medical office building known as the Center for the Urban Child and the ongoing construction of a 135,000 sq. ft. Pediatric Critical Care Tower. The company is also the construction manager for Villanova University’s expansive Lancaster Avenue project, working to transform the vast parking lot into a dynamic student residence facility with high-end retail and a new parking structure.
In addition, Torcon is currently managing the construction of a student housing project at Rowan University, a major hospital renovation and expansion at Cooper University Hospital, renovations and construction at New Jersey Institute of Technology, ongoing construction at Bristol Myers Squibb and more.
Other notable projects include the construction of Campbell’s Soup Company’s Employee Center, renovations at University of Pennsylvania’s ARCH building, ongoing work as part of Penn’s Century Bond Projects, the three year Transformation of the Campus Landscape project at Villanova University, constructing an award-winning biological studies lab at Penn State, building the student residence The View at Montgomery on Temple’s Campus and the construction of a corporate office building at the Educational Testing Service.
In addition to their involvement in the industry, Torcon places prominence on community involvement through mentoring local college students, engaging in community philanthropic events and participating on committees and organizations. Presently, Mike Armento serves on the GBCA Board of Directors and as Co-Chair for the GBCA Membership Committee.
